The house consists of living accommodation over three floors, with wine storage lodges in the basement.

Ricardo Soares, a Madeiran architect, has been instructed for his sensitive approach to restoration, experience of combining traditional and contemporary design, and strong sustainability principles.

The house will be renovated to accommodate seven bedrooms; many with ensuite shower rooms placed as objects within space, so as not to detract from the towering ceiling heights. The top floor will become an expansive master bedroom suite with views to Funchal harbour and the ocean beyond.

Externally; a salt-water pool, BBQ and Evening terraces, and car garage will be added to the site

Landscaping will have a vibrant jungle aesthetic, irrigated by water from the levadas (aqueducts), creating a tropical oasis in the heart of Funchal.

The energy strategy will be complemented by solar panels, to take advantage of the year-round temperate climate.
